Welcome to
A very warm welcome to Calderwood Primary School’s website.
Calderwood is a happy school, with a warm, welcoming and inclusive ethos. We have high expectations of pupils’ learning and achievement, and we encourage our pupils to develop a love of learning and to play a responsible and caring role in the life of our school, our local community and the wider world. We value pupil voice and promote leadership across our community. We aim to provide a learning environment where all children are supported and challenged to reach their full potential. We value inclusion and celebrate diversity - our children are at the heart of everything we do.
We value our fantastic school community and our 421 AMAZING pupils!
Mrs Innes, Head Teacher
Our brand new school building was officially opened on 31st January 2008. Our outdoor classroom was added to our garden in 2022 and we were delighted to open our brand new MUGA sports area in May 2024.
Famous actor and entertainer Stan Laurel, one half of the world-famous Laurel and Hardy, once lived in a house on Buchanan Drive, right next to our school. He also went to Rutherglen Academy, which is now our neighbour Stonelaw High School!
Our vision and values are central to everything we do at Calderwood.
We revised these recently as a school community, and launched them at the beginning of Session 2023/2024.

Rutherglen is a Royal Burgh.
It received its status as Royal Burgh in 1126,
which means that 2026 will be the 900th anniversary of Rutherglen being a Royal Burgh. Plans are well underway to mark this special occasion with local celebrations - our very own Mrs Ring is on the steering group for these plans!

Calderwood
Parent Council
Every parent automatically becomes a member of the Parent Forum when their child starts school, enabling them to get involved with school life in whatever way they can, whether it is helping out on a trip or disco, participating in parent curriculum workshops, supporting an extra-curricular sports activity, sharing knowledge with a group of children in the classroom or as a representative on the Parent Council.
The Calderwood Parent Council is one of the most active in the region and raises over £10,000 a year to support school activities. What makes this possible is the generosity and hard work of parents and the wider school community when they participate in events organised by the Parent Council such as the Summer and Christmas Fairs. The money raised is used by the school to fund a range of activities and items including: funding all school trips, sports equipment, the latest IT equipment and outdoor learning.
Our Parent Council warmly welcome anyone who comes along to meetings. They meet once a month in the school, usually on the first Thursday of the month, from 7 – 9pm.
For more information about how the Parent Council supports the school, please visit their Facebook page, Calderwood Primary School Parent Council, or email calderwoodpsparentcouncil@gmail.com .
